The cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area has increased significantly over the last decade, with the median sales price of a single-family home in the region reaching $1.1 million in December and rents at all-time highs. This rise in cost has resulted in many residents being forced to move further away from their jobs in order to find more affordable housing. In a prime example, teachers in the San José Unified School District are now facing the second most expensive rental market in the country. In an attempt to address these ever-escalating costs, the school district is considering building affordable housing for teachers or even covering the growing cost of living. Come participate in a discussion about the key concerns that teachers and the district are facing as housing affordability continues to worsen, and an examination of the solutions necessary to stem the crisis.
