DESCRIPTION: Join SPUR at the Oakland Museum of California for an exclusive member tour of Good Fire: Tending Native Lands, a powerful and immersive exploration of how Native communities in Northern California have used cultural burning to care for the land for thousands of years. Organized in collaboration with Native fire practitioners, artists, ecologists, and cultural leaders, the exhibition reframes fire not as solely destructive but as an essential tool for healing ecosystems, strengthening community, and sustaining cultural practices. Through fire-dependent plants, traditional regalia, basketry, video documentation of cultural burns, and artworks by Saif Azzuz (Yurok/Libyan), Renée Leann Castro-Ring (Lisjan Ohlone), Brian D. Tripp (Karuk), and others, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the profound connections between cultural fire, land stewardship, and ecological resilience.\n\nFollowing the tour, SPUR members are invited to stay for a conversation with SPUR Hazard Resilience Senior Policy Manager Sarah Atkinson, who will discuss how lessons from the exhibition connect to SPUR’s policy work and the future of fire management in California.\n\nFor details, click here: https://spur.secure.nonprofitsoapbox.com/component/events/event/502
