DESCRIPTION: This talk and gameplay workshop imagines new housing models through a creative reading of zoning laws SB 9 and SB 684, recent California reforms that can reshape residential neighborhoods. Learn about these laws at this hands-on workshop, where you can play a board game for co-designing a residential block, and win 3D-printed prizes.\n\nSB 9, passed in 2021, allows homeowners to split single-family lots and build up to two housing units on each. The more recent SB 684 streamlines the creation of up to 10 starter home lots. These reforms are designed to empower residents and small-scale developers to create attainable housing within existing low-rise neighborhoods. But their full impact is underexplored, with few SB 9 applications despite an estimated 400,000 feasible lots in California. This event explores the idea that design imagination is a critical missing ingredient in using these and other zoning reform laws to redesign existing neighborhoods toward more diverse, attainable, and sustainable futures.\n\nSpeaker:\nPeter Yi / Founder, Rebuild Collective, Assistant Professor in Architecture and Co-coordinator for the Simpson Collective for Urban Futures, University of Cincinnati\n\nFor details, click here: https://spur.secure.nonprofitsoapbox.com/component/events/event/533
