DESCRIPTION: Join SPUR and Plant Construction for an exclusive tour of 100 McAllister, a 1930s high-rise by renowned architect Timothy Pflueger, currently undergoing a major seismic retrofit. Over the last 100 years, this building has functioned as a church, hotel, makeshift space for wartime use, and government office building before it was acquired by UC Law San Francisco in 1980 as student housing.\n\nThis project demonstrates how historic buildings can be adapted to meet contemporary safety, sustainability, and housing needs. Because the building is still under construction, this tour offers a rare glimpse into the complexity of seismic upgrading that is typically hidden once work is complete. \n\nThe program will begin with a presentation by the project team on the building’s history, design, and retrofit approach. SPUR policy staff will also share about our work on seismic safety, including highlights from our upcoming policy brief: 120 Years After 1906: San Francisco's progress toward earthquake-safe buildings — and what needs to happen next. After the presentation, we will take a guided tour of the site. \n\nWe have a limited number of personal protective equipment (boots, vests, glasses, and hard hats) for this tour, so please let us know if you can bring your own.\n\nThis program is part of SPUR’s Earthquake Safety Week, which also includes a public event at the SPUR Urban Center on Monday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m., 120 Years After 1906: Preparing San Francisco for the Next Big Earthquake. \n\nThank you to SPUR Business member and partner, Plant Construction, for sponsoring this event.\n\n\n\nFor details, click here: https://spur.secure.nonprofitsoapbox.com/component/events/event/541
